ATLSECCON 2026 has ended
Thursday April 9, 2026 3:00pm - 3:45pm ADT
Many cybersecurity practitioners get locked into a traditional 9-to-5 role as the only viable long-term path. Based on first-hand experience, Jeff delves into 3 practical alternatives to the traditional 9-5 infosec job. Alternatives that remain firmly within information security and actually broaden your career's value and deepen your expertise. The alternatives include part-time technical authoring and editing, contracted full-time teaching roles in high-pay regions, and full-time security work as an expat abroad.
This session avoids hype and focuses on the real tradeoffs, risks, and lessons learned. The session is intended for mid-career and senior practitioners who are curious about career flexibility but want realistic, risk-aware perspectives based on actual experience. This session is not motivational or “quit your job” advice.
